Library Open House A Success
The Shellbrook Library’s Open House to welcome the new SILS Consortium on June 10th was a great success. The month of July kicks off the TD Summer Reading Club with its ‘Destination Jungle.” The Library annual summer book sale is on so come in and discover some real bargains.
The Open House on June 10th successfully launched the new provincial library system and the provided cookies, lemonade, and tea disappeared at a rapid pace. On hand were the Librarian, the Chairperson of the Library Board, Deborah Mervold and other board members. They greeted and discussed the changes at the Library with the numerous patrons who visited with their questions and to receive their new library cards. Handing out new library cards and setting patrons up on the new online catalogue has kept Librarian Alanna Carswell busy. If you have not yet gotten the new SILS card, she encourages you to visit the library with some ID and pick up your new card. Carswell would also like to remind patrons that with the changes, there has been an increase in fees on materials; 30¢ for adult, 20¢ for young adult, and $1.00 for DVDs and VHS. As there is no grace period, she urges patrons to return items in a timely manner.
The TD Summer Reading Club, sponsored by TD Canada Trust and hosted by libraries across the country, is at the Library for the summer. This year's exciting program is “Destination Jungle.” Come explore the wonders of nature in the jungles of the world, go on exciting voyages and travel to exotic lands by exploring the shelves of the Library. Club members receive a poster, stickers, and an activity book all free as a part of their reading kit. For explorers there are also some big prize draws hosted by the Wapiti Regional Library system as well as more local activities hosted on Fridays at 10:30 am at the Library.
From June 1st to June 30th the Library is be holding its Annual Summer Book Sale. There is a variety of gently used adult fiction and non-fiction, young adult, juvenile and children’s books. There are also magazines, puzzles, video cassettes, and computer peripherals. The price is totally reasonable -- a good will donation to the Library. New material is being added regularly so come for a second visit, or for your first, to see the collection before the sale wraps on June 30th.
