New Provincial Consortium

The Library is now part of a provincial consortium – the Saskatchewan Library and Information Services Consortium (SILS). The consortium has purchased a new integrated computer library system that will be shared by all public libraries in the province. As part of this initiative, all public libraries have agreed to share materials, borrowing rules, and late charges. An agreement on this scale is unprecedented in Canada, and a testament to our cooperative prairie spirit!

Some new features you’ll see at your library after we migrate early this summer:
  • A new state-of-the-art computer system, including many enhanced features
  • A customized library card account and improved security measures
  • Easy access to the collections at other public libraries in the province, and the ability to request many of those items at your local branch
Some fees and borrowing periods are changing:

The replacement fee for a lost library card will be $3.00. Late charges for materials not returned by the due date are also changing. Fines will now be charged as soon as an item is due. There will no longer be a grace period when fines will be waived. So please renew your items before the due date, or return to any public library in Saskatchewan. You will be able to renew your books online, by phone, and in person. More details on how to do this with the new system are on the way.

To see the different loan periods and the new fines:

Material Types --- Loan Period --- Fine Per Day --- Fine Cap
Adult Books --- 3 weeks --- 30¢ --- $6.30
Young Adult Books --- 3 weeks --- 20¢ --- $4.20
CDs, book on CD --- 3 weeks --- 30¢ --- $6.30
Juvenile materials (all materials) --- 3 weeks --- No fines --- No fines
Library science materials (from Provincial Library) --- 3 weeks --- No fines --- No fines
Literacy materials/ESL --- 3 weeks --- No fines --- No fines
AVs (DVD and VHS) --- 7 days --- $1.00 --- $7.00

You may experience disruptions to library service while the library migrates to the new system. We ask for your understanding and patience as we embrace this exciting change.
