The Shellbrook Library saw a good turnout for Smokey Bear on August 26th. With the arrival of fall, the TD Summer Reading Program “Destination Jungle” is wrapping up and Wapiti Regional Library joining the SILS Consortium in June continues to reveal advantages to patrons.
Smokey Bear visited the Library on August 26th to talk about forest fires, the forest, and his own history. The presentation had a good attendance of young children who, while shy when Smoke Bear made his appearance, were eager to get their genuine bear hugs. At this event, the librarian's camera, a silver colored Panasonic Lumix ZS5, went missing and the librarian would be most grateful if anyone can recall where it might have gone as it has the photographs of Smoke Bear's visit.
The Library would like to thank all the young readers that joined this year's Summer Reading Program. We hope you enjoyed “Destination Jungle” and your travels to exotic lands, exploration of tropical environments, and adventures discovering faraway places. We also hope you enjoyed the program events that were hosted Friday mornings during July and August. The Library congratulates Maddie Crawford, the winner of the guess the number of monkeys in the “Barrel Full of Monkeys Contest.”
The Saskatchewan Information Library Services (SILS) Consortium that the Library joined back on June 8th is being well received with appreciation of the now province wide selection of material. Patrons especially appreciate the barcoded key fob that can be used as a library card that are distributed with the new SILS cards. If you have not already gotten your new SILS card, please do visit the Library and remember two pieces of ID showing proof of residency is needed for the new system. Another appreciated feature of the online cataoluge for patrons is opting into the “My Reading History” function which will keep track of the books you have signed out so you no longer have to remember which books in a series you have already read.
Events coming to the Library this fall are Travel Night Italy presented by Alanna Carswell about her three week travels in Italy during July and Story Time for the children, so keep your eyes open for announcements of those dates.
